Minister for Digital Inclusion Tom Watson MP is to stand down as a government minister in the forthcoming cabinet reshuffle, according to reports in the Daily Telegraph and the Guardian.
The MP for West Bromwich East has not confirmed the speculation on his blog or on Twitter. He "walks the walk" on technology and won new friends in ICT for learning earlier this year with an impressive keynote at the Game Based Learning 2009 event in London.
He demonstrated a thorough understanding of the issues around "Digital Britain" and the social and economic importance of gaming, and his Twitter updates have supported innovative developments like Channel 4's 4IP investments.
The report in the Daily Telegraph repeats allegations from its series on MPs' expenses, but a wider ranging profile in the Guardian suggests other reasons for his reported resignation. It is thought that he will continue to advise prime minister Gordon Brown.
