SnowBy 9.30am this morning (February 2) more that 100,000 text messages were sent out to parents in South East England via the Groupcall Messenger SMS service to warn them of school closures due to the heavy snowfalls. The schools were able to send the messages via a secure website so no one had to be in school.

A recent Becta survey of 1,493 parents of schoolchildren revealed that more than two thirds of them want schools to make more use of texting services to communicate with parents.
