Despite England's abysmal performance in this summer's World Cup it's not all sackcloth and Ashleys in the world of football. Well, not in the world of virtual football, anyway. Footee.com, the innovative and lively online football education resource continues to thrive and now has more than 100,000 registered members and 300 schools within a year of its launch.
MotivatEd, the developers of Footee, have added new functions, allowing teachers to create their own football teams which can compete in a league against other teams from all over the world in genuinely engaging league tables – the Footee School League Tables. And it tackles science literacy and maths as well as the sport.
Children aged 6-12 can now earn extra reward points for real world activity – a successful pilot with Cambridgeshire local authority and the Cambridgeshire FA saw children motivated to take part in more healthy activity when incentivised by rewards on Footee.com
With more than 50 lesson plans and activity sheets for teachers added in the last month and an average two games appearing monthly, Footee is free and it's flourishing. So much so that MotivatEd has now developed club-specific versions of the site for two Premiership teams and is in discussion with other clubs.
And who knows, maybe the "Capello Index" can find a new home at www.footee.com. Are you listening, Fabio?
