Every UK teacher can now get a free 2GB memory stick pre-loaded with resources like lesson plans, worksheets, timetable, calculator and links to useful educational websites courtesy of Memory4Teachers. It's a clever marketing idea and there's no apparent down side apart from the fact that it will already have company material on it (that cannot be deleted) from a range of "partners”, some of whom teachers will be more than happy to discover. These include the National Literacy Trust, English Heritage, Comic Relief and the Royal Society of Chemistry who provide additional educational content and easy access to their own websites via the devices.
RGS Media Group, which has helped develop Memory4Teachers and has also worked on other educational ICT campaigns such as the Tesco’s Computers for Schools, says the sticks are password protected and encrypted so there’ll be no security issues if they are lost or stolen. The sticks are only available to teachers and academic staff who need to register at www.memory4teachers.co.uk. Any that gets broken or lost will be replaced free of charge and a web channel will provide downloadable updates and resources .
