A Belfast-based company that has helped develop the concept of managed services for UK schools and become a major player in the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme, besting some established favourites like RM on the way, has been awarded a prestigious Customer First UK Standard for its work in education.

The award recognises Northgate Managed Services’ outstanding levels of customer service, and the company is highly commended for its “strong client relationships, commitment to after-service provision, meticulous feedback strategies and staff enthusiasm”.

To gain the award, Northgate’s 200-strong team was measured against 32 criteria covering three business areas: building customer relationships; maximising market awareness; developing people. The company is one of only four Northern Ireland organisations to gain the recognition for such close attention to customer care.

David HylandDavid Hyland“To become a world-class service provider in such a competitive industry, it is imperative to provide outstanding customer care,” said David Hyland, managing director (education) at Northgate Managed Services. “We are delighted to achieve this coveted standard as further demonstration of our solid and continued commitment to customers, putting them at the heart of our organisation.”

Northgate is the ICT partner in one of the first contracts issued through BSF - Bristol - and there have been further notable successes, including Kent. Anyone who has visited Northern Ireland to see the Classroom 2000 project (probably the biggest PC network in Europe - see Futurelab article here) will be aware of the scale of the operations it has managed. But its reputation for customer care has picked up school customers outside major initiatives like BSF. A good example is Hugh Christie Technology College in Tonbridge, Kent. School staff explain why in the YouTube video case study below.
